Now you are back from the Holidays and you tell yourself (and everyone around you)  “no more wine, sugar, and heavy food for awhile”.
You get the water bottle out because you are going to “clean out” for a few weeks.

And you, -hey wait a minute. Which bottle of water are you choosing?

Do you actually know what is in your water?  Do you know if some water is better for you than other water ? Water is water, right ? How about tap ? And why water anyway ? Water is only for fish! (someone told me during dinner the other night as I was ordering my own bottle.)

So, Here some water stories.

First – tap or bottle ?

“Tap water is the best in NYC”,  it is said. “It comes from a great source in upstate NY”. Yes, it does – but do note : “Sources of drinking water worldwide include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over the surface of the land or through the ground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material and can pick up substances resulting from the presence of animals or from human activities. Contaminants that may be present in source water include: microbial contaminants, inorganic contaminants, pesticides and herbicides, organic chemical contaminants, and radioactive contaminants”.

The next question is then. What else is in the water?.

Typical added chemicals are:

  • Chlorine : to disinfect the water.
  • Phosphoric acid : act as a protective film on pipes to reduce the release of metals and lead.
  • Sodium hydrozide : to raise pH level and reduce corrosion.
  • Fluoride : to help prevent tooth decay. (Should it not only be added to our teeth?)

Fluoride is a huge water health-issue to become aware about !

Fluoride has added to our water supply since 1966. We know that it may help children’s teeth (note the “may”) but we now also know that it is NOT healthy for our bodies.

Fluoride is actually a poison. It is a by-product of steel manufacturing and when released into the environment as waste can damage crops, livestock, and humans. (That is us).

BUT, ingesting it causes even more damage to us !

Fluoride is showing to cause bone deterioration and cancer, suppress thyroid function, cause brain damage similar to dementia and Alzheimer, and affect our immune system, (negatively that is).

For some more information on fluoride’s effects: http://www.holisticmed.com/fluoride/

And http://www.fluoridealert.org/

Now why do I tell you all this? Because I believe water is necessary for our health and it must therefore be of the best source possible without adding to the other toxic matter we already have to deal with in our everyday life.

  • Drinking water helps moisturize your skin from the inside out, maintaining elasticity and suppleness, and helping to prevent dryness.
  • Water aids in digestion, and helps in the proper function of your kidneys, urinary tract and your intestine.
  • Water helps regulate your body temperature, especially while exercising.
  • Water helps cushion your joints and helps muscle metabolism.
  • Water helps remove waste and impurities from your body and helps carry nutrients, oxygen and glucose to your cells to give you energy.

Following some water info to go by just in case you are still in doubt.

#1.

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2.

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3.

Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4.

One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

#5.

Lack of water, the number one trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should drink every day?

And what water to choose?

There are many sources of bottled water out there, some are more fancy than others. At home you can also install a water filtration system on your faucet.

Another water-health issue to take into consideration is the pH value.  The more alkaline the water the more health benefits and the more hydrating it is.

Here is my own handy list, but it does not include everything out there !

Trinity water pH 9.6, Fiji water pH 7.5, Evian pH 7.2, Volvic water pH 7.0,
Tap water is normally around pH 6.6

That’s is all for now. Go have a glass of water. Or two.

Yours Thirsty, jeanette
